Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Acts as the hands-on technical operations manager, coordinating the operations of a large network installation, and operations/maintenance shop of system administrators. As such, the lead server LAN installer has the experience and knowledge to perform all major network infrastructure installation, integration, configurations, and operations work, but the lead installer also focuses on coordinating the activities of less-experiences installers.
Typical duties and expertise include the installation, configuration, and operations of network equipment, to include servers, routers, switches, hubs, firewalls, network storage systems (SAN/NAS), intrusion detection devices, and other network hardware. Server installers are also charged with installing system software, to include user programs, operating system updates, security and anti-virus software, and security patches and IAVAs. Server/LAN installers are also tasked with ensuring all network services (print, file, messaging, database, applications, web, user account management, data backup, etc.) are delivered effectively and efficiently. Server/LAN team will also need to integrate new equipment with existing services. Server/LAN installers will tune network and network service performance as needed.
The specific duties include:
1. Planning, coordination and management of all efforts for system implementation
2. Delivery and installation of the necessary hardware to include racks, enclosures, cooling, servers, blades, and other network equipment
3. Installation of all software on the servers
4. Configuration of all software based on provided documentation
5. Installation and configuration of interface drivers relevant to other equipment used
6. Configuration of RAIDS inside or attached to the servers
7. Configuration of UPS
8. Installation of console switches for shared I/O devices
9. Configuration of the servers so that they can be tested at defined events
10. Conduct other system integration duties as appropriate.
Installers maintain network documentation and system configuration documentation on an on-going basis.
This position requires travel to job sites in the Netherlands and Germany.
Major Job Function:
Lead the hands-on installation and migration team efforts for the installation/migration of IT systems and networks for complete sites. Serve as technical focal point for the server/LAN installation. Ensure the successful integration of new equipment with existing services. Coordinate technical assignments among the installation crews. Advise project managers regarding issues such as personnel allocation, technical matters, schedule impacts, and testing issues.
Qualifications:
- Requires several years experience with the installation, integration and configuration server, switch and other LAN equipment
- Requires experience in transferring individual user settings
- Requires several years experience in Windows migrations, to include using Windows migration tools and the automatic deployment of server and workstation hardware and software configurations.
- Required demonstrated knowledge of Active Directory troubleshooting and Windows 2003 protocols (TCP/IP, NETBIOS, DNS, WINS, etc.).
- Knowledge of HP server equipment and Cisco switches highly desired
- Desired experience in the configuration and use of advanced security devices and tools such as firewalls.
- IT support shop management a plus.
- Current NATO Secret clearance (plus).
Years of experience: minimum 6 years Windows sysadmin experience.
